In April of 2018, a friend of mine showed me a picture of Eric Parnell’s “Wolf Heart” design, and I immediately fell in love with it. She reached out to Eric on my behalf and within a month we had arrived at a mutually beneficial arrangement for me to purchase the copyright for the design from him for my own use.
On May 5 we drove to Vancouver, BC to meet with Eric and finalize the deal. Eric gave me a print of the design as well, and I gave him a copy of my “Prayers on the Wind” CD, as a bonus.
Over the past month I’ve worked with Andie Whitewing of Whitewing Music and Bob Paltrow of Bob Paltrow Design to customize the design into my own logo.
This design has great personal significance to me. The design is Haida Gwaii, a distinctively recognizable art form among the Coast Salish peoples, whose territory is both the place I call home and the place where I first came to making music. The heart is an emblem of my own heart, the place from which I draw my music, the part of me that is shared in the music-making process. The wolf within the heart is the wild cousin of the domestic dog, an animal that is in a way a totem of my own spirit. In my original design for my first CD, “Songs from the Heart”, I incorporated a heart and a dog’s paw print. In this as in many ways, this beautiful design represents my humble musical beginnings as well as my own identity.
I proudly present to you my new logo:
